My roommate told me at the end of May that she's moving back home for the next school year for personal reasons. We'd already renewed our lease, and all my other friends already have housing for the fall, so I've been scrambling to find a roommate before I'm stuck paying July rent by myself. Fortunately, it's a great apartment for a very reasonable price, and I've had half a dozen inquiries already. One medical resident came over to look at it today, and he wanted to sign the lease as soon as possible (apparently he's been living on a friend's couch). So...I have a new roommate. He should be moving in the 27th, the day Helen leaves. I guess it's going to be weird living with someone I don't know at all, but he seemed friendly enough. He's an older Asian working at the Wash U med school, so I can't imagine he's going to be around the apartment much (generalizing just a bit about the Asian work ethic, and the rigor of Wash U's medical program). He as much as said he doesn't a social life and pretty much just wants a place to sleep. In other news, I ran almost all the way around Forest Park today. It felt fantastic. I usually only go around 4 miles, but this was pretty close to 7. What a great hobby: one hundred percent free (not counting good running shoes), and extremely rewarding, both physically and mentally. Current Mood: content

I found this message posted on my housemate's wall: "Is that dude in those pictures your new squeeze? =]" And a later post: "The one in doze pictars.....kai something YOU + HIM = <3???" God, the way that's phrased just slays me. "New squeeze". In other news, FINALS ARE OVER AND I FAILED EVERYTHING. ... Well, maybe not everything, but Calculus for sure. The final test was nothing like we'd done for homework, EVER. And it asked for this one weird calculation thingy that we had only vaguely looked at once, waay back in the day, and I didn't even remember we had ever done it until it was required to complete 2 problems out of 9. Shit. Anyways, I'll post a more coherent, reflective post later, maybe. I need time to let the euphoria wear off and to get all my mental faculties back on board for real life. Tags: school

homg. Usually I don't like second-day rice because it's all stuck together and dry, but maaaaan, trying cooking it up with some olive oil, spices, and peanut sauce, throw some cooked lentils in, and you have one damn tasty meal. Vegan Happiness ftw. ...now back to the books, because I have a nasty Calculus exam tomorrow, and a nastier Philosophy of Law exam on Wednesday, and an ungodly amount of reading for all my other classes. x____x Tags: school, vegan Current Mood: satiated

Back--for real this time. I've been checking LJ irregularly for about a week and a half, to explain my sporadic commenting, but I doubt I'll catch up on everything I missed over break. Though New Year's resolutions always seemed a bit arbitrary, or even mystical, to me ("Hey, look, the sun's at that point where we all make promises we don't keep"), I'm making an honest effort to get outside myself this year. That includes regular LJ posts and comments because, well, I know more people on the internet than in real life. ^^;; ( Look, I made a friend irl! )Also, I found two very cool things this weekend: 1. FreeRice.com Use your extensive vocabulary to feed third-world countries! 2. CouchSurfing.com Travel the world, meet awesome people, and never pay for a hotel room again! Couchsurfing is a website that lets you find people all over the world who will let you crash on their couch, and also "sell" your own couch to get the world right in your living room! I signed up the moment I found it. If any of you all are interested, yes, my couch is available. It's a dang nice couch too (see above picture). I don't know why anyone would WANT to come to St. Louis, but the offer stands. :) Tags: good ideas, mitsu, travel Current Mood: chipper

I'm taking a break from the internet until finals are over. Normally, finals aren't all that bad (they give us three "reading" days after classes end to prepare for them), but all of my tests and final projects/papers are due BEFORE reading week this semester. I have one paper that's due on the 16th, but I'm leaving on the 11th and emailing that one in. Basically, I have a crapload of work to do without procrastinating on the internet. x.x Also, my dad and stepmom sent me a "goodies package" for finals week. That seriously weirded me out (they're really not the type to do that), but what weirded me out even more was that it was (I shit you not) 12 pounds of salmon, bratwurst, pork sausage, and various cheeses and cheese dips. WTF? Granted, I haven't told them I'm a vegan, or even a vegetarian, yet, but I've watched the meat and cheese intake for years. And they know I'm seriously into the health food thing. I am touched at the thought, I really am. But seriously, wtf? This is only slightly weirder than the time they gave me a bag of sea salt for my birthday. I'm starting to wonder whether their intention is truly benign. Anyways, see you all after finals. Tags: diet, school, wtf
